There
is no way you would find this reserve without directions it's hidden right
at the back of a little housing estate off Hwy 60 going west out of
Bartow. It contains the confluence of the Alafia river and Poley
Creek and some of the densest palm tree hammocks I've seen.

Here is a good example of the kind of palm tree coverage you'll see
here. I think these are called Sabal Palms.

Here's what it's like looking up through them. As usual it was a
beautiful sunny day even though this was the 2nd of January 2005.

Here's the actual stream, you can see there is still some damage from the
hurricanes here. You really feel you are right in the middle of the
wilderness though.

This is the downstream view from the vantage point at the end of the first
trail. It was very peaceful here, we were the only people in the
whole reserve.
